sonny

Donald Akers – “Sonny”
Maintenance

Sonny came to Stonegate and Carlton Scott Apartments in June of 1983. That’s right, he has been with us for almost 30 years! Prior to coming to work with us, Sonny worked in home construction and for Ford Motor Company in their factory. He is originally from the Riner area of Montgomery County, VA and currently lives in Christiansburg. He has three grown daughters and eight grandchildren (2 girls and 6 boys). Sonny’s favorite thing about working here, and the reason he’s stuck with Stonegate and Carlton Scott for so long, is the great work environment, great co-workers and the students and their parents. He always enjoys hearing from previous residents long after they have moved out. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, walking and spending time with his grandchildren.

He has four children, two boys and two girls, ranging in age from 4 to 22 and is originally from Pulaski County, VA. He now resides in Newport, VA with his wife and family. Mitch’s favorite part of working at Stonegate and Carlton Scott is being able to help the residents and make them more comfortable in their homes. In his free time he enjoys football, softball, skiing and spending time with his family.
